Just to clarify...

MS13 is a specific sect of Sureno gangs. Surenos gangs associate with the number 13, the color blue, and the roman numeral XIII. We do have quite a few Sureno gangs in Dodge City and in SW Kansas. You will see their graffiti usually with "Sur" in front of it or somewhere with it. They also will commonly have the 3 dots tattoo. Two of the more common Sureno gangs out here are 18th Street and MCB (Master Criminal Boys). 18th Street members have recently been showing up with more and more tattoos, especially the "18th Street Spider" (8 legs, "18" in the spider's body). I have not heard anyone mention MS13 as being local - doesnt mean they arent here and laying low or on their way...but I have not heard of any currently out here.

The rival groups, of course, are nortenos. They associate with the number 14, the color red, and roman numeral XIV. The commonly have the tattoo of 4 dots. Norteno gangs active around DC include LCC (Los Carnales Chingones) and DV (Diablos Viejos).

We do have 4 officers that are assigned to work gangs and gang related calls. They also document gang members and enter them into the national crime computer (NCIC). If you are listening to a scanner and hear Signal 120, that means the person is a known gang member.

Hopefully this clears things up a bit. As Vinnie said, dont assume someone decked out all in red is a "wannabe" - most of the guys and girls are the real thing, all the way down to criminal activity and carrying weapons.
