Steve Brown, fighting the good fight

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I write this. I was trying to figure out exactly the right words, and I am sure that I haven’t, but I will try none the less.

After battling a major foe for over 22 months now, my dearest friend Steve Brown has been given the news that there is nothing more the doctors can do. He has been in the hospital since Saturday and is now going home to be with his wife and dogs.

To say Steve has been a warrior would not come close. I am proud to say that he is my friend, an inspiration and a hero. Now comes the hard part of just waiting and praying. I lived through my stepfather dying of cancer and saw the daily battle he endured. I saw the fight, and the ultimate defeat, turn my mother into a broken person and would never wish that horror on anther human being. Steve’s wife, family and friends have stood by him throughout, and we will stand beside him till the end. Unfortunately this mighty warrior must now lay down his shield. He must hang his sword back on his mantle and remove his armor for his fight is nearing it’s end.

I have cried until no more tears would come, and I am sure I will cry many more times for my friend and his family. It is like staring at an hourglass, watching each grain fall and knowing that you can’t stop them……..you can only wait.

There will be a benefit dance/karaoke night that I am Djaying in Cimarron at “Brandy’s” this Saturday night. I believe they are trying to get a raffle and other things set up. All proceeds are going to Steve and his wife.

This has probably been the hardest post I have ever written and I apologize for it being so long.
