Well, this is what I've heard. Somebody else will take the time to look it up and give you a better answer, no doubt. I hear that since diamonds take hundreds and thousands of years to form, that they are in limited quantity. Kind of a supply vs demand thing. CZ's, on the other hand, are lab created and as many can be created as there is demand for, which keeps the price low. That, and some diamonds of greater weight and more perfect shape are purposely kept off the market for investment purposes.
I'm like you, though - I don't know that I could tell the difference between a CZ and a diamond of the same size. It just stands to reason that if a person at the office comes in one day with a giant bling and they are in one of the smaller payroll categories, chances of it being a CZ are a little higher unless they have a nice, nice boyfriend or sugar daddy.
