Casino deals just keep getting better for Ford County

Second proposal from Dodge City Gaming Inc. includes free land for event center, horse barns, rodeo area, lots of horses, and 3 percent for non-profit tourism venues.

Not sure why Kim Goodnight put off the vote -- he showed up late as the other two commissioners were about to move on a motion -- others got votes with 3 day notice, and for Epic, a few hours, but former Boot Hill Gaming Inc. board member Goodnight must have his reasons.

But more importantly, the package that the Wichita-based second casino group proposed should raise the bar for Butler National, especially having horses, and the free land for the city to build our events center. This would mean that a second expo center would not be necessary, also saving millions of dollars for the tax payers.

Also, not noted in the article really, is that Dodge City Gaming Inc. could have a casino making money for the county/city almost immediately using an existing new fancy building that is already on the property, while they build their casino/hotel complex. This could mean millions of dollars extra for the city and county -- guess the first group will have to match that in the future. State of Kansas will love having money flowing right away. Their location also means that a new fire/emergency building will not be needed either, something overlooked by those talking about the west location. You can't have 1,000s of people without close fire department.
