| Legal staus and citizenship are 2 different things. After you linger around with legal status (for years) then you get to apply for citizenship. This is what I'm told by the numerous immigrants I see. I still don't fully grasp the process though.
I do know that it's damn confusing and sectioned - and costly. Hopefully that will get better or hopefully we won't really have the need for all the confusion cause some will go home. Don't look like it tho.
