Because baseball is one of the few businesses with an exemption under the Sherman and Clayton Anti-Trust Acts. Without that exemption baseball could not exist as it does today. And it was Congress which granted them that exemption. Those 30 owners and their hand-picked commissioners sit up like trained seals anytime the Congress makes noise about getting a look at some of their business practices. And, with respect to the steroid scandal, those owners and commissioner were asleep at the switch.
PLUS...it's a photo op for some Congressmen and a great way to waste taxpayers dollars...(which they will have more of to waste after a Democrat is in the Whitehouse.)
