Sherer's very public support for putting the Events Center (although he couldn't get it built in years and years on the City Commission) where, at the time secret Boot Hill Gaming board member, CFAB Chair (maybe, maybe not) Greg Starks wanted it -- will now cost possibly up to $34 million dollars in city taxes for infrastructure -- all to support the Casino, not legal, but hey, just free tax money. (Petition to repel sales tax will come up again, I'm sure.)

Sale your property now (I am) before the property tax doubles, triples, or more. Or join with JAG in sucking money out of Dodge City tax payers. Maybe 30 years from now there will be a payback -- or longer.

Gee, since it started out as a $20 million dollar Events Center in Dodge City, without much in infrastructure changes -- it is now a water stealing $30 million dollar center, before the required $34 million in sewers, water pipes, roads. And that doesn't even include the cost of the no-doubt necessary additional fire/EMT station if the west location is chosen.

So give a big thanks and a vote to Jim Sherer for blowing millions of your tax dollars. And thank Pat Shrader, Lance Nichols, Ann Torrey, Terry Williams, Justin Banning, Rick Sowers, too -- and especially Greg Starks.

Remember Sherer and Starks support a different, much less expensive plan until Starks and Boot Hill Gaming decided to use your tax dollars for their casino.


At a million dollars a year returned to Dodge City, before additional service costs, hmmm, about 30 years from now we might be seeing daylight. But, wait, the Center will have to rebuilt by then, so never mind. And if you believe that property taxes will not double, I have a bridge to sell you. Good luck suckers.

Added: a bright former Dodge Citian, with massive experience in things like buildings, notes:

"What did they think would happen when they tried to build it way out there -- it took them this many years to just run some feasibility and infrastructure numbers… come on! RUN AWAY!"

The repeal of the WND sales tax is over. We will never have another chance. Judge Innes declaratory judgement is set in stone. The time limit to appeal his decision has come and gone. As far as the city's portion is concerned the tax can not be repealed as soon as any money is bonded for the sec. We had our chance on that front also but Dodge City didn't take ahold of the opportunity.

However, you are correct about our property taxes. There is no direction but up, with the issues that must be addressed. Funding (infrastructure costs) for the casino, oops I meant, sec will be more dollars than what our city budget is for one entire year. You know who'll be paying for that!!!

I wonder how many people thought about that, when they voted YES for a casino?
