| I have been researching the same issues myself. I have 2 PC's side by side one running COX security suite and Microsoft Antispyware and the other running nothing. The one running nothing is by far quicker loading pages. I believe the slow down on some pages is due to two different issues. 1. On-demand/real-time virus/spyware checking turned on. 2. Code intense pages such as vBulletin.
Some anti-virus/Antispyware checks incoming data BEFORE it gets written to the hard drive making the loading of pages, also dependent on the amount of code on a page, much slower. Other anti software uses On-demand checking meaning it only checks the code when its used(on-demand).
vBulletin is pretty code intensive and would tend to make these differences more notable. Real-time protection(incoming data checked before its written to drive) is better protection but at a price. Slower loading of code intense pages.
