Bubba - this is going to sound trite - but, the answer is -
Go ask them personally why they are not accomplishing the things you expect. If you get less than a good answer - go to a Commission meeting and ask the question again. If that still doesn't work, determine what you can do to change the course of the issue you're passionate about - talk to those who do influence the elected official, become active on a board or committee that will effect the change you desire. If none of these fit, then start your own wave and be persistent until the change you want is implemented, or - you find an improved solution.
I follow these exact steps - and anyone who says it's BS, is the one who is sitting on the sidelines and just likes to complain. Change occurs when we make it happen. But we have to accept responsibility for the position(s) we take whenever we're in front of the public. Most of us would rather be the sniper than ever risk taking the bullet.
