We place too much value in things that really don't have that much value, in my opinion. Owners and players both make more money than they should. I mean, IT'S A GAME! That is why nose-bleed seats cost so much and "good" seats require a small fortune. A cup of beer is $10, a corndog is $5, etc.
It's market driven. 1st of all A-rod will make that much and more for the Yankees. If no one paid 8 bucks for a beer and 5 dollars for a dawg they would lower their prices...but the stadium is sold out virtually every game. It's about the market, drawing people and making money...along with competition.

It is sad that we don't put such a premium on firefighters, military and even teachers but it's comparing apples to oranges.
