| When my wife was pregnant we realized whe had 2 choices. We could cut everything we had down to just barely living and I could drop out of school and go back to slave labor like I did at Excel. (I was almost graduated and there were no real jobs in Hays) Or we could get a medical card.
We got the card but turned down everything else we were offered like WIC and food stamps. We didn't need food, we just needed help with the medical bills.
I'd been in the job market for more than 15 years at the time and I'd paid more than my medical bills in to state taxes so I had NO problem taking the money.
On top of that, my wife and I both ended up getting Master's Degrees. She teaches high school and I'm up for a job that will end me up paying more state taxes in a year than I would in 5 throwing boxes at the packing plant.
Sometimes the system works.
