| Well, when I lived on a farm (in a damned trailer house, no less) with hubby #1, there was an opening day I had to duck for cover. Some stupid a$$ hunter from out of town was on the land (we lived on land that was owned by ex-hubby's boss) without permission shooting at birds around the sprinkler irrigation system. Idiots. Ex-hubby and boss were livid! The worst of it was that buckshot was hitting the trailer like hail. So, from then on, the land was posted no hunting. But I believe he gave permission to other neighbors to hunt his land after opening weekend (ex-hubby and family had options on the opening weekend)....just not where the trailer sat. After that weekend, I made annual trips to visit my mother and took the kids with me on opening weekend!
Long story short, I think land owners are getting tired of allowing hunters to go on their land only to find out they've destroyed a fence or a gate or left a gate open. Or done something else stupid. They keep the land closed so they, their family and a few friends can hunt it.
