If your statement is true then I don't hold out much hope for the continuation of our democratic process. The simple fact is we need to have some idea as to what is being done in our name otherwise we'll never be able to change things. We don't want our leaders to govern on "the mushroom principle" - keep them in the dark and shovel s**t on them every so often!
Where ever did you hear that Democracy was all about openness and truth? There are somethings that are better left covered for the security of the people in that democracy. (BTW IT pisses me off to no end to hear America described as a democracy, we are and always have been a Representative Republic)As we like to say in America, "Freedom is not free" and another that should go with it "If you ever watched sausage being made you would never want to eat it".
