How about protection of technology that if gotten into the wrong hands would give power to dictatorships and other ne'er do wells. You seem to be of the opinion that everything should be open, but if that was the case the Germans would have had the same code breaking machines and computers the Brits would have had because of your wish for openness and truthiness or imagine how it would have turned out if the Japs and Germans had access to nuclear weapon technology because of this openness and truthiness you want. Imagine how WW2 would have turned out then.
