Another story about the Cops of Dodge City....

DCPD has endured it’s share of condemnation on this forum, quite possibly earned most of it…whether it be the individual officers, or the DCPD as a whole…

So, I feel it’s only right, that when one officer does something that’s above and beyond the call of duty, it also be recognized.

Last night, I was in Walmart with my 4 year old granddaughter, who due to things her mother has done, is very afraid of anyone in a uniform; ESPECIALLY police. I walked up the the shortest check out line, and looked up at the same time my granddaughter did, and saw we were in line directly behind a cop, in the blue jumper they wear with all the hardware. Immediately, my granddaughter started shaking, and tears started running down her cheeks. My first reaction was to turn and go to another isle. This gentleman saw her reaction and immediately went down on 1 knee beside the basket and smiled at her, and said all the nice things a little girl likes to hear…and went one step further telling he had a daughter her age, and even shared her name. He calmed her down, and really intercepted what could’ve been a traumatic situation for her. While he was doing this, his wife checked out, paid, and was waiting in the isle patiently for him.

This may not seem like much to most of you, but having seen how terrified she is, and her reaction to most police, this meant the world to me as a grandmother.

If the officer I’m speaking of reads this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
