Indeed they do. When I worked at Excel I was the only one in my department who wasn't in the Union because of stuff like that.

But back in the day, I'm talking 40's or 50's here, companies gave a damn if their workers could eat and pay the mortgage. Now they care if you show up on time, do your best to make them as much money as possible and then pay you the very least amount they can.

If you cut too far into their profits by wanting enough to live on then they take your job completely and move over seas.
