As I see it, those who get into positions of power often get the mistaken belief that the rules do not apply to them. A recent example on a national news level is Bloch. I would like to see similar action on a local level.
In the mean time Hays is making changes in the elections by discussing local politics in forums similar to this one. It is an excellent way to vent your political frustrations while finding how many feel like you do. Grass roots efforts many times will start in a place just like this one. This a far better source of information than any newspaper if you truly want to find the heart and soul of a community.
If you feel your government deserves to be watched closer, that is exactly what you should do. Those meetings are open, by law. It may be more difficult for zoning boards and planning commissions to bend the rules if they know you are in the room and listening. These are the people the commissioners can rely on for information on growth in the county.
