Maybe PEOPLE are opposed to drilling ANWAR since they don't feel the risk to the eco-systems there justifies the reward in oil recovered. More simply stated, most estimates put the amount of recoverable oil at 4.3 to 16 billion barrels. If this amount was used to soley support U.S consumption, it would amount to seven to twenty-four months supply. Now if the reward ratio was greater, I'm sure PEOPLE of all political leanings would be clamoring for the government to start drilling like hell. As it stands, it's really a pimple on the ass of all oil production.
As an aside to your ANWAR obsession, it is interesting to note the area became federally protected in 1960 by order of Fred Andrew Seaton, Secretary of the Interior under U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of America's true great Republicans and war-time generals (Army) to boot. So instead of blaming LIBERALS for the current state of ANWAR and it's federally protected status, you might do well to research the issue and find the origins of the said evil protection. First of all any help with the current oil situation would be good...granted it would be a minute before we were reaping any benefits from ANWAR but the price of oil is speculative anyway...right?
It's not about who protected it in 1960? Our economy and possibly national security wasn't at risk in 1960. The same party that protected it now wants to drill it only to run into road blocks.
One of the reasons they want to drill in Anwar is to actually find out how much oil is there. Since you already know exactly why don't you call someone , let them know and save them a few dollars.
