It is very much about who protected the area if you're going to spend your time whining about not being able to drill it. I also think we had national security risks in 1960. See Cuba, red scare, Sputnik, etc.

"They" want to drill ANWAR for money. Nothing else.
I tried calling them to tell them, but they are only accepting calls from tree-hugger these days. You know, the people responsible for the high oil prices.
