Maybe some of the casino tax money could go to fund more police officers or better yet have the ones we have enforce the law.
I know what you mean....I saw a "Fly by Night Industries" truck selling stuff on folding tables on the corner of Earp & 14th where the cowboy supply used to be the other day. So, I called the police to have them check to see if they had a permit to sell the stuff at that location, if they didn't the police could issue a citation and have them pack up and go on their way. But, the dispatcher that answered the phone wanted me to call city hall to see if they had a permit!! I'm sorry, the last time I checked, I wasn't getting a paycheck from the Dodge City Police Dept. They should be able to do their own jobs.

I also wondered the same thing about them having a license...so I checked on them, and yes, they have a valid city license that they paid $1000 for.

24 votes from 144 viewings is just over 16% participation.

Isn't that about equal to the last % of voter turnout during the last city election?

I don't think an election is representative of desire in this town.

FWIW, doG thinks this quaint little town is already in the shitter. Go ahead and put this crap in, too. We can take it.

Do they have to prove citizenship, residency or anything like that to get a sales permit or can they be here illegally?

In Mexico it's a criminal offense for any foreigner to engage in any business activity without a business visa.

Dodge City is too far out of the way for a casino. I don't see it happening. S.W. Ks. is the red haired step child of Topeka.

Quietly has the right idea though. People need to voice their opinions to their legislators. Getting people to do that is like pulling eye teeth. People sit around and have their ideas but they won't get off their butt to get anything accomplished. We have to many people with the mind set that I (just one person) can't make a difference. That's non-sense plain and simple!

If you have a desire and want to see something happen, you're going to have to get off your butt and start it! Even if you make mistakes along the way. Life is the process of learning. Doing something is better than doing nothing.

Lurker, You're right about the % of people who vote! That mentality has gotten us the 20-30% turn out at the polls for so long.

Mike B.

Gambling in DC would go over big time. Look at the Nevada junkets leaving Garden City and Liberal. The planes fill up very quickly, and we are talking airliners. Of course, we would have them leaving DC too, but our runway at our airport is not big enough. I bet we would draw people from all over, including Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, etc. Look at the Casinos in North Central Oklahoma! Alot of Kansas money leaving the state.

Good thing no one thought that about Las Vegas.

I do agree our chances are slim. The people pulling the strings in dodge would rather keep it an industrial cesspool. Unless, of course, they stand to gain from gambling.

Unfortunately, I don't think Dodge City has had a quiet small town feel for a number of years.
