It has old hospitals that have been turned into Bed & Breakfasts and several casino operations.
My personal observation is that not only Bubba, but others as well, are comparing the saving of Cripple Creek with Dodge. Folks, they're talking about building A casino. Not 2 or 3 and not put them in historic buildings. And the only places to spend the night are in motels. Cripple Creek is cool and those folks have spent the $$$ to do it right, with no promise of any gain. Dodge, on the other hand, ...............

Bringing back tourism is not going to be an easy job but I think gambling is a good start. It would bring it's own set of problems like deciding which new businesses we want to allow to move to dodge and a building boom. And then there will be the problem of what to do with all the visitors and their money.

Vote? you mean like our vote on Why Not Dodge and the events center? Ya right. Voting is a joke

It has helped turn a bunch of trashed Indian Reservations, into pretty nice places! And yeah, several people get a cut, the State, some charities, but it sure would bring alot of extra money into the DC economy. Money that could be used to "Clean up the Place" and make it presentable again!! I have lived in Dodge City most of my life, and it damn near embarassses me to be "from" there anymore!!! Our way of life went down the $hitter with the addition of the packers and the problems they brought with them!!

I remember in college, when I would drive down 21st street in Wichita (that's where all the packers were back then), and I would think to myself, "who in the hell would want to live around all of this damn stinky mess"!!

Don't forget that the first step is for the Legislature to pass a bill allowing a casino in Ford County, and the governor must sign it into law (which would probably happen, given that she supports expanding gambling.) If that happens, the next step would likely be an election on whether Ford County voters want a casino. But if the Legislature fails to act, the issue will be dead for another year.

If you feel strongly either way about this issue, I urge you to contact the lawmakers representing this district. They're in Topeka as the voice of their constituents (At least, they're supposed to be), so you need to let them know where you stand.
