| The vote in 1997 I remember well the vote in 1997 - The deal that was sold was that the 4 centers would be build or upgraded and that we would maintain the sales tax to support those efforts. I don't remember that the deal was ever maintained that the activities would ever be self supporting. The sales tax would continue on to support or develop new projects. This was a great opportunity for all time. I am not sure why this is such a surprise for anyone now. And it is a great opportunity for Dodge City. Everyone always claims that sales tax is the most fair tax. Why isn't it fair now? |

| During all of this I've been disappointed that none of our "Elected" District Judges had the balls to take the case.... instead they passed it off to a Wichita (has-been) judge. Could it be-because "Our Judges" can be replaced every few years?

| I believe the 3 Ford County judges recused themselves from the case because they had all voted on the sales tax question in 1997 and had expressed opinions about the sales tax and the projects since then. In my book, it was a wise decision. Some people may dislike Judge Innes' ruling, but I can only imagine the complaints that would have resulted if one of our local judges had reached the same conclusion. |
