I suppose now we will hear how crooked the Judge is, or that he was bought, or some other nonsense since those wanting a repeal didn't get their way.

It's not a case of being bought off. The part I do not like of the ruling is when you take away the right to vote, we are loosing a part of our freedom. I can not have guaranteed that the Petition would have even passed. Now we have set a precedent that from now on the City or County they can do anything with “Why Not Dodge Money “ and you have no recourse.

I don't see how you get that out of the ruling. The way I see it the judge saw that the county entered a contract with the city to fund the Why Not Dodge projects that was voted on by the people. Now that some people are upset and want to back out of the contract, the judge ruled that you can't back out and that you must follow the result of the first vote.

Errrrrrr, didn't you get to vote on it once? If you elect a president and aren't happy with him you are stuck until the next election or you impeach him (see Bill Clinton) Your right to vote was not taken away. You just don't get to vote AGAIN.

The Judge is not crooked nor has he been bought off. I was one in support of the repeal, however that effort has not materialized.

I am still optimistic about Dodge City and Ford County! Just because the repeal vote didn't make it does not mean an end to all the good things going on in our community.

I agree with Redhead 18, I feel we lost an important right. The right to vote. Sure, there was a vote in 1997 and I respect that, but I also believe that we, after following the law, brought about enough signatures to bring this issue to a vote. Not saying it would have gone in our favor, but at least the people would have had the opportunity.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm disappointed but also glad the repeal question is over!

I hope the City and County Commissions will be responsible and accountable with the money that we have entrusted to them. LOL!!!

When people voted for that, they expected they would see particular results. When said results aren't accomplished, after nearly ten years, I would like to think that one would/could expect that they could go back in and say, you did not keep up your end of the bargain. This is after all a democracy not my mom's house on Thanksgiving dinner where you will eat every last pea on your plate and LIKE IT, or else. (or else what? the boogey man? an attack from chuck norris? the unknown is frightening!)

We continue to blame the politicians for our problems when they're only doing what comes natural. Looking out after their own interests. The real problem here is the people of Dodge City are acting like politicians. Looking out after their own interests.

I complained about how the vote on the SEC was ignored twice, and instead of addressing the issue of our vote being ignored, those who didn't want the SEC saw no problem. Some even saw ignoring our vote as a good thing.

Now that some are on the receiving side they are crying foul play.

Much like the smoking ban instead of being addressed as an issue of rights infringement or too much government control, those who don't like smoking have no problem giving away the rights of others if it serves their wants.

Politicians have always looked for ways, right or wrong, to accomplish their own agendas and our only protection was by a united stand of the people. We are divided by our own selfishness and so we pay the price.

And the number one problem with that is that not all of "the people" want to eliminate the SEC and the county portion of the sales tax. So its not as cut and dry as saying "the people" changed their minds.
