This blog is to keep our community up to date on current happenings and schedule during the construction and development of BHCR and its ancillary facilities.
Footings have started, and weather permitting, concrete will be poured for several days on and around the casino pad site. Dirt work continues, mostly on the north parking areas and roadways. The project remains 'on schedule'.
Activity has started this week with sub-contractor Sporer clearing the site, installing erosion control and beginning rough grading in preparation for pad-sites, temporary roads and staging areas. The schedule provides that these steps will last through the end of January.
Sporer Land Development for Oakley, KS was the low bidder for excavation and surface preparation for the Casino - a 200K cubic yard project. Included will be the building of West Comanche into the Mariah Center complex, pad sites for the Casino and Event Center, water detention, and other landscaping features. Sporer expects to move first-dirt about Jan 7th.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were completed Dec. 22nd on about as cold a day as you could experience. Opening comment was "Many people said it would be a cold day in Hell when Dodge City would open a Casino - we'll here we are!"
A ceremonial groundbreaking will held Monday, Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m. for the Casino at the north end of the Mariah Center property. Gov. Sebelius will attend along with Senate President Steve Morris, Senate VP, John Vratil, Rep. Pat George and many others. Everyone is invited to attend. This officially starts the only Casino currently approved in Kansas - the first under construction - and will be the first to open one year from now. It's a big day for Dodge City.
