Volume Five

Posted 01-15-2008 at 12:35 PM by SGT T.
The MiTT mission ended for me on 28 December, and so I was transfered back to my "Parent Unit" here on Rustamiyah. On the up side, I get hot showers, MUCH better food, and laundry service. Not to mention my scope of responsibility is going to be MUCH smaller, and I could use the break. On the down side, I am now with a big army unit, and big army does big stupid things. I won't get down into it, but there are some strange rules here that no one can seem to explain to me. Another down side is that I really miss my team. I loved having that mission, and the guys were like family to me. Disfunctional and abusive sometimes, but family none the less. They are all back at Carson now, so thats a wonderful thing, and I am still here. I've been told by my boss that 8 months outside the wire was enough, and now I am more or less restricted to post, which pleases the wife, but I am bored to tears. The only thing we are really up on now is cleaning out the containers and completeing inventory on our equipment so we can get the heck outta here in about 90ish days. I've learned a lot on this deployment, about myself and about the army, and so after careful consideration, I've decided to temporarily change my career path. I am in the process of putting together my recruiter packet. If you volunteer to be a recruiter, then you get to choose where you'll go, but if you are CHOOSEN to be a recrituer by department of the army, then you go where they tell you to. So I am going to volunteer to be a recruiter in the most rural area I can find.

I talked to the wife last night for the first time in a few days, she tells me that my oldest is very anxious for me to return. I just don't think I can leave them again in 18 months to come over here again. If recruiting falls through, then I am going to see about getting assigned to a MiTT team so that when I come back over here, it will be for 12 months, and I'll be doing something worthwhile, instead of doing what I'm doing now, getting ready to qualify for my FOBBIT badge.

God Bless you and your family. I know how hard it is to have a loved one in a war zone.
