| So after the change, you may have noticed that all of the threads showed as NEW... All uses will now see that all posts show as new. This is because the database had no entry for your post reads. Be sure to click on "Mark all posts as read" to create your starting point in the database. Everyone will need to do this. Don't blame me, it was Lurker and Hiways idea! ![]() Last edited by Administrator; 09-29-2006 at 10:03 PM. |

Database marking would be accurate for a person that uses more than one computer because it uses our servers database to track your activity (significantly increases the size of the database), cookies would not because it uses the cookie that stores the last post read to track your activity. If you use more than one computer, your most recent cookie would/might be on the other computer, therefore you would not get accurate post marking. | I just marked all threads as read threads... So, as it was; all read threads were read as read but threads with new posts showed as non-read in their entire-tee. Right? Do you read me? Over.

| There is no way to do that! OOPs - almost forgot who I was!! Here's the deal... With cookie based, you have to either hit "mark threads as read" to mark threads read, or you have to stay on the last page of the thread for x amount of time to have it marked as read. The information is stored on your computer in a cookie. With database method, it marks them as read when you view the posts. So if you go to page three of a thread with three pages, all posts are marked as read on that thread, regardless of the time spent. So conceivably, you may only read the first post on page three, but all posts will still be marked as read. There is still a cookie from us, but it does not contain post-read information. It contains your login info, but only if you check the box to keep you logged in. Follow me? Keep in mind that you may still have to hit refresh after going to the "New Posts" to get an accurate list. This is because we currently have the "no-cache" option turned OFF. Turning this ON would force your browser to get a new copy of each page every time you navigate to a different page. This would considerably increase bandwidth and server load so we have followed the recommendations of vBulletin and currently have it turned off. It is fairly easy to just hit REFRESH (on your browser) on pages you want to refresh. Last edited by Administrator; 09-29-2006 at 10:26 PM. |

| Do you mean the box that says “remember me?” I had to check that or I got logged off.

| That's the one Checking that box signals the board to store your login information in your cookie. If you don't check it, your login information is not stored, therefore you have to enter it each time you visit. eBay, Paypal and many other sites have the same option, but some don't store your password, just your login info, for security reasons. |
