Here's another thing that just came to mind. Let's say I send someone a negative rep. Then I can guarantee that the neg. rep. will be brought up in open forum. Something along the line of "ohh Drifter you can send me a negative rep but can't argue the validity of your point here on the board." OR "what a coward, you can send a neg. rep. but won't face the board." will surface.

We've got to look ahead as to what negativity will come from the rep system. It didn't police anything. If you want some system that gauges the rest of the boards idea on your post then this current system is fine. Again, if this system sticks around I suggest that we change them to Agree and Disagree because the "spanks" brings childish conotations. I guess another thing that it does well is it gives new comers an idea as to where people stand on issues be them political, or whatever.

For the board's sake...don't bring back the rep system
    and sorry for the redundancy

Just an observation -- even the polling is no longer anonymous.

I think no matter which way you go on your rep system, your not gonna please everybody, and your gonna have people who are gonna bitch about it in the forums. Not much you can do about that.

You know it really doesn't matter does it? I mean your all not happy unless your whining, I think I have said that before. The main point is,WHO CARES? Why in the hell would you care what anyone thinks of you, humm let me see, OH NO someone sent me bad rep so I think I should run around on the DB talking crap about that person. Honestly I don't care what people say about me on here, personally I would rather somebody give rep, negative or otherwise, than have them go around talking trash on me. I mean come on people how old are we? I mean it's like High School all over again. Mr. President someone gave me bad rep I want you to get rid of the rep system because I feel someone is picking on me. Yes they may be picking on you, so what do you do, give them HELL back! (I hope I get spanked) :)
How can you teach a child new tricks, when your just learning them yourself?

Hence the words on the POLL saying it's a PUBLIC poll...

When does this poll close and when do we go back to the way it was but with "who gave you the rep" appearing? Over 50% of the board has chosen one choice. When does it happen?

Why do we need any reputation system at all? I can't really see the point of it. The current one is so predictable that its almost meaningless.
    Just my personal view.

    Reputations 101

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reputations can help to reflect how respected a member is in the internet community, kind of like how ebay scores a member. You can score any member simply by clicking on the scales icon on any of their posts. You also have an opportunity to write a comment. You are only allowed to give 10 clicks (Hits) per day, whether that be positive or negative. You can view a members reputation simply by passing your mouse over the square dot under their post count. You can view your own points by going to the user CP. You will see for what posts you gained/lost the points and any comments that were left, but you will not see who left you the points.

Reputations are a way a board uses to inspire a camaraderie amoungst posters and reward helpfulness and responsible posting. Some members may give negative ratings to posters who flame or use profanity. If you found a post to be helpful, you should reward the poster by giving them a positive hit. As your reputation increases, so does your power to give reputation points to other members.
When you click to give someone else reputation points, this is called a "hit".
Members who rate your posts positively, will increase your reputation by 1 point. Everyone starts with 10 points. A user who falls below 10 points may not have their HITS count toward another members rating.

Here is a list of the possible ratings and the reputation point level to achieve it:

User has made many an enemy on this board-100
User needs to turn things around in a hurry-50
User has a little shameless behavior in the past-10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000

Users start out with 1 point of reputation altering power, but a user must have 30 posts before his user reputation hits count on others.

For every 100 reputation points, a user gains 1 point of reputation-altering power. This means the HITS they give have increased.

For every 120 days after their first post, the user will gain 1 point of reputation altering power.

For every 500 posts, the user will gain 1 point of reputation altering power.

You must give reputation to 20 other members before you can give it to the same person again.

If the Administrator gives you a HIT, it's 10 points.

Some boards use reputation levels to ban users; ie: a reputation of -50 automatically deactivates your membership. This is sometimes used on larger boards to allow the members to govern, removing a bad or mischievous poster. Some boards use high ratings to assign moderation positions.

Please use the reputation system, and reward others for their positive and helpful posting. There may be some rewards given out down the road.
