I have to admit lurker, you have me very confused on what and where you stand. The water park has not and never should be a done deal. You talk about it in one post like you would rather have it than the SEC, then it looks like Kemical and Demon pointed out that the water park would cost more to operate than the SEC would. Then in another post you talk about how much it will cost to run both the SEC and the water park....then you really lost me.

Bottom line is Kimminau and Boettcher don't want the SEC that has already been voted for. But, they do want to spend the money on the water park which will cost more to operate, never mind the fact that water is well on it's way to becoming more valuable than oil at the rate we are using it. In addition to spending more money on a water park they want to repeal the sales tax.

How does that add up? You spend more and take in less and yet we will still have lower property taxes. I feel like clicking my heels together and saying "there's no place like home, there's no place like home..."

I've searched this thread for a post that might give you that impression and can't find it.... Would you please show me where I posted that.... I like the idea of neighborhood pools. Especially if they were located adjacent to the Grade Schools.

OooooK.

The problem with repealing the City Sales Tax for Toys and replacing it with a City Sales Tax for Infrastructure is that it can't be done with a one question ballot. The possibility exists where the public could vote to repeal the toy tax and also vote against the Infrastructure tax. Should that happen, then the existing operational toy costs will be borne by Property Taxation.

Property taxation was a good idea a hundred years ago but our economy has changed. It's more of a "cash flow" economy now. Several states have recognized this and they don't tax based on property but on cash flow.

If a family of four moves here from (insert location) and rents their casa, their only contribution to city, county, state and school costs come from the landlord's property tax on the casa. They spend most of their wages on rent, utilities (maybe) and consumer goods and targeting consumer goods with a sales tax would help relieve the burden that now weighs too heavily on property owners. Our Governor wants to fiddle with business property taxation, and that will shift even more of the burden on residential property.

The problem with the sales tax is that it started as a State Sales Tax. The state controls it and limits the additional taxes that local governments can tack onto it. Dodge City is maxed out.

It's my belief that we need to reconsider where our slice of the sales tax goes.

I guess it started with Kemical's post about how Kimminau and Boettcher are against the SEC and for a water park. Then he said it would cost more to run a water park than the SEC. Then you posted a partial quote of Kemicals post and asked how much more.

I guess I assumed by that, that you were also in favor of a water park and against the SEC, thus you would be for Kimminau and Boetcher. If I assumed wrong....well I guess I made an ass of myself and apologize.

No need to apologize Bubba. I was asking for a further explanation of the ongoing costs..... to further the discussion without drawing any reference to anyone's intelligence; or lack thereof.

Pootsy, if illegal drugs come across the border from Mexico are they still illegal drugs or merely undocumented drugs?

If harmful drugs were to ever be the issue, then we'd truly know what illegal vs. undocumented vs. legitimate vs. illegitimate vs. taxed vs. untaxed vs. healthy vs. unhealthy drugs are...

How bout we "brain up" and start talking about the root to all of our problems.

Those lovable, tax dodgin beef packing plants we have.

And anyone who blames their high property tax on anything else is under educated.
