Promoters won't bring in concerts and such now because it's not worth the trouble for the return on the dollar. Garden City, Liberal, Great Bend Hays or Pratt don't have any facilities to host the kind of events that a SEC could bring.
Can you say Arena Football, or maybe a hockey team, Ice Capades, Hispanic Concerts for our majority hispanic population.....the possibilities are great. |
Cap'n, the Legend can't fill the Civic Center now. IF the SEC is built, and the Legend games are held there, it would be just like the Cagerz at the Salina BiCent. Ctr; less atmosphere because of too large of an arena!! Plus, if
DC and surrounding areas can't even support a team like the Legend, to make it profitable, I am sure that they would not support hockey, arena football, etc.
As for the "hispanic concerts", look at the fiasco that occurred at the Cotillion in Wichita a few weeks ago. Yeah, just what we need!!
Having a concert or something periodically is great. But, I do not foresee enough support out here to pay for the thing. It is alot cheaper to drive to a metropolitan area, like Wichita, to do those things. Let those people pay for the facilities. Just like most of the Wichitans are really thrilled about building a new ARENA, when they have the facilities already there too!!
