What "bought and paid for" study are you using to form your opinion?

Just admit it. I doesn't matter what studies, research and background has been done and what it concludes, you're just not going to believe it. You're smarter than everyone else, and there is no way anyone could possibly have a differnt opinion than yours and be right.

Quit changing the subject and show me some solid research to support your conclusions.

By the way... If you're interested in checking out the "bought and paid for" research, it's available at the Development Corporation office. I'm sure you won't bother.

Touched a nerve, huh?

Why Not Dodge? is a very costly play toy. That's a FACT.

That just goes to show that if you bring in a bigger name show it will sell out. But guess what, bigger name shows won't come here because we don't have enough seats for them to even consider it. With a 7500+ seat SEC, the bigger names will come. Granted it won't be a Friday or Saturday night concert, they keep those for the bigger arenas, but we could have the weekdays shows.

I wish it was that simple CK. There hasn't been a dud DC Days opening act in years but very few profitable shows.... and it ain't the facility that stops the attendees.

Dodge City's simply not an entertainment market. It's a Cattle Slaughter Town.... with a tourist past.... based on a wicked city history....

Your conclusion is fine with me here, too.

It was a 7500+ seat arena that would be better able to have the Dodge City Legend games and bring in other events that promoters will bring in if you have the seats to sell. Promoters won't bring in concerts and such now because it's not worth the trouble for the return on the dollar. Garden City, Liberal, Great Bend Hays or Pratt don't have any facilities to host the kind of events that a SEC could bring.

Can you say Arena Football, or maybe a hockey team, Ice Capades, Hispanic Concerts for our majority hispanic population.....the possibilities are great.
Cap'n, the Legend can't fill the Civic Center now. IF the SEC is built, and the Legend games are held there, it would be just like the Cagerz at the Salina BiCent. Ctr; less atmosphere because of too large of an arena!! Plus, if DC and surrounding areas can't even support a team like the Legend, to make it profitable, I am sure that they would not support hockey, arena football, etc.

As for the "hispanic concerts", look at the fiasco that occurred at the Cotillion in Wichita a few weeks ago. Yeah, just what we need!!

Having a concert or something periodically is great. But, I do not foresee enough support out here to pay for the thing. It is alot cheaper to drive to a metropolitan area, like Wichita, to do those things. Let those people pay for the facilities. Just like most of the Wichitans are really thrilled about building a new ARENA, when they have the facilities already there too!!

Jeez

This whole SEC debate makes my blood boil.

#1. We voted it in in 1997. It should have been built. Money Pit or not.

#2. Mr. Boettcher, You will not repeal the sales tax and kill the SEC. You may vote in favor of repealing the sales tax. But you don't have any sort of trump card to make it happen as their are others that sit up there with you.

#3. Mr. K. Thanks for the informative graphs in the paper showing us stupid people the direct correlation between our skyrocketing property tax and the "Why not Dodge" half cent sales tax increase. Graphs really sum it all up don't they. I remember seeing a graph on the net that showed the direct correlation between the ever expanding hole in ozone layer and the number of pirates left in the world. Scary huh!

#4. Tom T. I enjoyed your letter to the editor in Fridays paper. It was very well written and enjoyed your plea to make sure the everyone votes. And in caps it was written "remember, YOUR VOTE DOES COUNT". What you forgot sir, was the parenthesis where it said (but not in 1997).

I think I am going to run in the next city commision election on platform to rescind the "Why Not Ed?" project. Times have changed and do we really need this anymore? I say we repeal the funds put into this project and use it to help alleviate the property tax and build a jail.
..Gunn you can't do that. He was voted into office.
... Oh yeah... thats right.
