| I think I found the chart that you were talking about....

| I am kinda lost here too.... It won't work because a town with the population numbers equal to a small prison has one? Quote:
For every study you show against it, there is one also for it, so they negate each other out. You can't say it wouldn't work based on it somewhere else, because they are not us. We never had an SEC, nor has anyone around us to base those assumptions on. We can't fill a, what, 2500 seat OUTDOOR, dusty, in the weather arena with has been or up-and-coming country singers so obviously having a 7500+ seat, indoor, out of the weather arena drawing bigger names of different music styles can't possibly work? The problem with this town's management is the thinking of: A) unless somebody on the board, or their friends, isn't making some serious dough out of it B) find the negative and expand on that instead of any positive and C) NOT LISTENING TO THE VOTERS They paid for and erected that butt ugly bird post they call a statue without any consent They paid for the "relocation" of the anorexic bull, which amounted to making it sit higher, without any consent The money from those two projects alone could have funded Boothill for two or more years. Is it an SEC center that people are against........OR......is it that they, and most of us, have lost the trust of our leaders to do it properly. Face it, their track record so far is pretty bad, so I can't blame anyone for that. On the other hand we can always replace bad mangement of a facility........... If we built it, and some business said they would lease it and run it and pay the city a fee..........those in charge would still negate it because there is the chance it WOULD succeed, bring in good money and the city would not get as much as they could have. As long as it is not built, that never happens and they can just say it would never work. Never wonder anymore why this city is drying up and becoming an overpriced wasteland.

I think that pretty much sums it up right there.

| Our fine city leaders didn't listen when we the people said Dirt Track and they had to spend the money to go back and do what the people wanted. I don't think we can support a Event Center and I wasn't here to vote in 97. I can say that if you drive around you will see a lot of homes for sale. I can say that we may have just voted in Our own little Katrina. This town cannot support a event center, a new school, keep baling out the racetrack and handing money to our wonderful boothill that no one hardly goes to and if it weren't for the schools bringing over their kids our numbers of visitors would be a cry for help. I will give a hand to the very optimistic people of Ford County and hope they have big pockets to support the dreams of making something out of Dodge City that it isn't and never will be. I grew up here and have lived in the surrounding area all my life. It is like thinking we can build a ski lodge. We don't have the right climate, need, want, funds, or support for it......kinda like the All for Fun, it came and it went because people couldn't or wouldn't support it.... |

| You are wrong. Well as I appreciate your opinion, your comments on the whole situation just reinforce my belief on how brainwashed some have become in our little town. I chose to look past the whole special events center in the past election and really look at what was being said. I chose to vote for progress. I chose to vote for someone that stood up for my vote in 1997. Our little town needs help. It has to become something it is not or it will die. And your "pack it up cuz its a lost cause" routine, although popular with some of the louder citizens of our little town, has become stale. And I guess from looking at the voting results I am not the only one who feels this way. It's so easy to target where we are spending the money. I hope the new commisioners realize where we aren't receiving the money and stand up to the bullies. Congrats to all the new commissioners.

| Well said gunnar. Quote:
We all know where our problems come from so lets quit taking the bait, cut our strings and take our town back. We need to stop bickering among ourselves and do whats right. The SEC was unanimously voted in. Like it or not that vote should be honored or we except the fact our votes mean nothing. We need leaders willing to stand up and not be intimidated by big business.

| I will second that, we could actually make some real cash with a casino and people would come from surrounding areas just to play...A casino would be a win win situation for Dodge City. Every class and color would come out to play. |
