The voters have proved Ed and Mike to be the dousche bags they are. Hallelujah, praise God!!! 1997 did not occur in a vacuum or time warp. We are, as members of this great community, truly blessed by this election of inteligence and the triumph over stupidity and the dousche bags! As Dubyah said, "Mission-almost- Accomplished". See ya'll at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new event center. I'll be sittin up front while ya'll are in the nose bleed seats. As for the new school, again, thank God our community will be educated.

I'm with ya on the SEC, because it was voted in, but another school could be bad news.

What if the new bill sends all these immigrants back to Mexico? We could be going to be back to a city full of empty buildings.

I agree the election was very interesting, BUT when you talk about a DOUSCHE BAG folks, Mr. Nelson really showed his true colers!! after the primary he just flat walked out on the job He was elected to do a job and he chose to run out on his responsibilites. Granted he was a lame duck but he could at least have had the respect for the citizens and showed up at the meetings and sat in the chair!! It would have been nice to at least sit there with his mouth shut if he didn't think we wanted his opinions. That would have been better than starting another argument.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm sure I saw in yesterday's or today's Globe quotes from him at the last meeting about the Civic Center. Here, I just went and found it:

Commissioner Mike Nelson said instead of issuing general obligation bonds, the city could finance the reconstruction project with some of the proceeds from the city’s and county’s sales tax. Voters approved the tax in 1997 to finance a series of entertainment-related projects, including improvements to the Civic Center.

“Of all the things we’ve looked at, including a jail and everything else we’ve looked at, at least this fits the projects,” Nelson said.

He said he did not think a pending lawsuit concerning how proceeds from the sales tax should be spent would prevent the city from using sales tax money for the parking lot project.

Mayor Terry Lee said he agreed with Nelson that the city could use sales tax money to reconstruct the Civic Center’s parking lot.

“I think it’s an excellent ‘Why Not Dodge’ project,” Lee said.
