| Kansas Legislature - Husband and Wife both run Can you imagine both a husband and wife running for the same seat? And to cancel their vacations so they could afford to fund two races?
Isn't that like betting on the red and the black? Quote: |

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., July 10 (UPI) -- Instead of an anniversary trip to Europe, a Kansas couple has decided to run against each other for a seat in the lower house of their state legislature.
Both Pam and Jeff Ippel want to represent Kansas' 48th House District but Jeff Ippel must win the Aug. 8 Republican primary in order to face Democrat Pam Ippel, who is unopposed in the primary, in November, the Johnson County (Kan.) Sun reports.
The Overland Park couple called off a planned trip to Europe to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary so they would have enough money to fund two races.
Their main mode of travel now is on foot, going door-to-door passing out campaign literature and talking with voters about the issues, the Sun says.
As members of opposing political parties, the two hold nearly opposite views on many matters, the newspaper said. For example, Jeff Ippel supports a modified version of a taxpayers' bill of rights limiting the amount of tax dollars lawmakers can spend while Pam Ippel opposes such a measure.
