TexKan,

I did not mean to offend you but our current pool does have an aluminum lining which is rusting away, allowing water to seep out. (Which may not be a bad idea)

The old pool was made of concrete. They last forever! (almost)
Bubba is right. Besides evaporation, you have to have release of concentrated water to allow incoming makeup water to dilute the system water. Works same for boilers and cooling towers that are water cooled. This is a highly concentrated water with minerals, alkalinity, pH, etc., that is being released as wastewater. If you turn it back to the ground, as they are saying in their "propaganda", it will leave an alkali flat like you see in parts of the SW US. I would think that KDHE would make them build a proper holding lagoon to contain this wastewater.

As for the pool, I remember when they voted to build our current pool. Seems like the powers to be, at that time, pushed the aluminum type pool just for that reason. It would be more resistant to degeneration, so it would last longer. Can't they replace the liner? How about pouring a concrete liner inside of the present aluminum liner? I guess instead of a pool, we could send the kids down to the river to swim, like we did when we were kids. Oh yeah, the river is dry!!! Well, we could send them to swim in the lagoons at the new alcohol plant, or how about down to the sewer ponds south of town???

Luumenum doesn't rust because it rusts (oxidizes).... but only on its surface. If you cut it or even scratch it, the surface atoms (or molecules if it's certain alloys) will quickly oxidize and recreate the barrier that prevents sub-surface oxidization.

In the presence of some chemicals it will corrode.

I thought there was a skating rink in DC...???

I know when I was a kid ....I lived at the rink ... absolutely loved it....and I was slim and trim....

Here is what babysat my kids in Okinawa... they had a youth center with an OUTDOOR RINK.... it was concrete and slightly tilted...smooooooooth and HUGE.... no cover over it....just the beautiful blue sky and the wind in your face....had some kind of rubber guard rails.. ...had a booth to rent skates...

course this was on base.... and on a semi tropic island...temps never dropped below freezing....however it rained every day...just a small shower and as soon as it was clear.. kids hounded me to go skating ... .. ..anyhooooooo..... It probably would be cost effective and maintaining not too costly...
Even in the winter... on very nice days... it could be opened ...
Have to remember tho... Kids nowadays want to stay inside .....TOO HOT OR TOO COLD outside...

The people that were detered must not get out much. Try going to the movies, even with the discount prices of the shows before 6pm, by the time I buy my ticket, drink and popcorn, I'm spending $10-12 just for myself. If you took a family of 4 out to the movies on a Friday or Saturday night, I bet it would be hard to walk out of there without spending at least $50.

Well I don't know enough about pools to have an opinion - personally I was just rememberin how cool the old one was. Looks like they shoulda stayed with tried and true instead of tring to go littler and better. Too bad bout the pool - I didn't think it was old enough to need overhaulin but if the liner is a mess - then I'm with MIT - pour concrete and make a real pool! Poor Dodge - always a crisis over sumthin. I thought with the elections ya'll were gonna be havin better luck - what happened? I still say if they get into office and don't keep the promises they made - then they otta be ejected out and the runner ups otta have a chance.

...and that is a point that I brought up in another thread. Before anything is built or whatever the FIRST thing you have to do is clean up the community. When the word gets out that the town is unsafe it doesn't matter what you have, less people will come. I love to skate and always have but that would be a fertile area for young gangs to hang out. We should clean up the town before we build all these projects.

Well, I guess the blobe hasn't found anything we need to know about.....

But I'm troubled that Terry Lee hasn't issued a statement about this. Why is Terry Lee quiet, too? I used to think he was the only watchdoG on the commission.

The three either waited until he was gone; or they conveniently staged it when he was gone.
