It might make sense to know if someone is in deep financial do-do and more likely to steal from you before you hire them.

My thought is that your credit-worthiness is a way of judging your overall trustworthiness - be it right or wrong.

I feel if a person will buy a car on credit or max out several credit cards and then not make the payments, thus getting a bad credit rating, that is the same as stealing. And not only from the finance company or the credit card companies but from each of us, because the loss to these companies is passed on to each of us who do pay our bills so they can re-coup their losses. If a person will do that they can't be trusted in way of thinking.

Oooh thats gonna hurt! So you trust someone based on their credit rating? So you are a Banker or loan agency?

I understand if a person has a choice and faults on a loan on purpose, but to judge a person untrustworthy simply because they have bad credit is... well the mindset of a loan institution. What about you Lone Gunman, when you were in financial dire straights were you also untrustworthy?

My financial dire straits were no fault of mine it was my ex wife, and yes she is very untrusworthy. She maxed out credit cards before the divorce agreed to pay them and didn't so the companies came after me. And I made sure they got paid.

I know the feeling. My situation was a bit different but one I had no control over. For this reason I don't feel ones trust can be judged simply by a credit rating. I know a few very well off people with probably very good credit I sure wouldn't deem trustworthy, and I also know some people that don't have a pot to piss in or a window to through it out of and credit to match that I would trust with my life.

Hold on - I didn't say we deny them coverage based upon that fact, but we use that in our overall judgement of the risk. That's just one factor. And if that happens to be the factor that puts it in the trash can, we usually find out the details. Some are as innocent as ours, but others are like you've described above (purposely running up credit accounts and then filing bankruptcy).

How about your money. I too know people I would trust with my life but maybe not my money. I've been burned too many times so I keep an eye on who has access to my money.
