Total cost of the SEC: Not to exceed $33,730,000 After interest is applied the cost will exceed $55,000,000.

The SEC is just what we need. Another big building setting empty in Dodge City. The SEC would have approx. 4300 seats, twice the size of our Civic Center, which we don't (can't) fill now.

By the way, just what attraction would fill, or even partially fill, a 4300 seat building? What show or event could we bring to Dodge that we could not use the Civic Center, Rodeo grounds or DCRP?

Correct!

Partially correct, The SEC isn't the main plan for conventions, it was/is the main plan to have a place large enough for concerts, monster trucks, indoor rodeos, etc. Some people have tried to turn it into a convention/meeting hall building and calling it a Special Events Center.

That came from page two of the agreement.
"with an additional approximately 10,000 square feet of dividable meeting/conference space"

Big emphasis on additional. 10,000 sq. ft. isn't going to be the main area of the SEC, it is what it says an "additional" afterthought.

It's not a matter of can't fill the civic center, it is a matter of no promotion for things that come to it. Things that could sell more tickets won't come to the civic center because a promoter that knows what he is doing doesn't have the opportunity to sell enough seats to make his money back with a reasonable return. So, they don't even consider coming to Dodge City. With the space to have 4300 fixed seats and additional movable seats they will bring bigger and better shows to Dodge City. Also, with the casino in Dodge City, the SEC will be a great addition because people can have a reason to come to Dodge City. They can spend some time in the casino and catch a concert or show at the SEC.

sunny beach,

I say let's not build that additional 10,000 square feet and let the casino have the convention/conference facility. We, taxpayers, could save alot of money.

Better yet, lets have the monster truck shows at DCRP. Concerts at the Civic Center and Rodeos at Round up arena. We'd be saving $55 million dollars.

Bands form Mexico. We already have those here in Dodge and they play every week end and sometimes during the week. They play, "Let's paint someone's Garage", "Break that winshield", etc. Send those bands back to Mexico!!!

I am fine with letting the casino have the convention center.

The problem with concerts at the civic center is that there aren't enough seats to sell for the promoter to bring in a concert worth going to. That is why the concerts they do have at the civic center don't come close to selling out of tickets. Not very many people want to see the kind of concerts that will come to the civic center.

I understand your point. I think Dodge would be hard pressed finding a promoter to bring a big name artist to entertain us, even with 4,300 seats plus additional move in seating. That's not really very many seats. Big names sell 20,000-50,000 seats in no time. And they do that on week-ends in large cities. Dodge City will always bring in older acts or new acts that have yet to be proven. Neil McCoy will be at this years Dodge City Days concert. Will the Arena be full or close to it?

Global will have their hands full filling that SEC. Global will get paid one way or another. If the SEC is ever built!

I just talked to the promoter from the mixed martial arts deal that was out here a couple of weekends ago. They had it at the Dodge City arena and basically lost $8000.00. They virtually sell out in Wichita and have vendors asking them to do it again because they make money. They come here and pffffffffft, very few people came. The MMA and UFC is a very hot thing now nationwide...just not in Dodge. They said they would probably never come back. Maybe we could get cow tipping or something....
