I keep tellin ya there needs to be soccer. Soccer is the game of the folks that move money in Dodge. The locals seem to whine and complain but actually do not come out in droves to support much of anything - including Dodge City Days. Look around it's a Tejano town.............. I really think you are fightin an uphill battle till ya turn the tide on what makes money in your town.

The problem with concerts at the civic center is that there aren't enough seats to sell for the promoter to bring in a concert worth going to. That is why the concerts they do have at the civic center don't come close to selling out of tickets. Not very many people want to see the kind of concerts that will come to the civic center.
My main complaint about the CC, is those damn uncomfortable new seats we have!! They suck!!

They failed for one very BIG reason, NO PROMOTING!! You have to advertise, or let people know about the event, if you are going to have any customers!!

Perfect example of a poor promoter. I didn't know anything about it until 2-3 days before the event, when I read about it on Dodgeboard! Not only was it poorly promoted, but it was poorly scheduled, since it was on the same night as the World of Outlaws at the DCRP, which had record attendance by the way. The World of Outlaws had been scheduled for that weekend for at least a year, so the failing of MMA at the civic center falls on the poor job done by the promoter. BTW, I went to the MMA, because I'm not a big race fan. I bought $36 floor seats for the simple fact that I can't stand to sit in the new seats that they put in the civic center. The arm rests sit so low on the new seats that the cupholders on every armrest dig into your thighs and make it VERY uncomfortable!

sunny beach,

I agree with you. I believe there will be a good crowd. Sold out? Maybe.

sunny beach,

So the reason we can't fill the Civic Center is poor promoters. If that is true, which I don't doubt, that problem can be fixed.

What's the old saying, "You get what you pay for."

But that still won't change the fact that a good promoter won't look at the civic center because there aren't enough seats to sell to make enough money to bring in a "good" show.

Contemporary Christian bands have drawn large crowds into the Civic Center.... but nothing will replicate the crowds drawn into the Civic Center during the 70's Rock era.

I'd say more but I can't seem to remember.......
