| Last Chance To STOP The Event Center. On the last vote for location of the Event Center in Wright Park this was turned down by a majority of the voters by 73 percent. According to Mr. Greg Starks CFAB Chairman, The Heritage Development Group and Global Entertainment Corp. both express an opinion the Event Center should be located in Wright Park area. What we have are the same people that sold the Voters on the idea of Wonderful Asphalt RaceTrack, instead of a Dirt track that All Racers wanted. Now they intend to build the Event Center in the Wright Park area again, regardless of what the Voters said. Isn’t it odd that the people that want the Event Center, say the people voted for the Event Center and it must be built. But when you have 73 % of the voters saying NO, they say that vote does not count. It appears it’s a different ball game. You play by their rules or your out. The time has come for the Voters of Ford County to stand up and say “Enough is Enough.” A very important meeting will be held on Tuesday night February 27th.2007 in the north meeting room of the Civic Center. This meeting is open to the Public. We need everyone to attend. Mr. Glen Kerbs, Ford County Counselor, has approved the Petition. “Title: Proposition to repeal the Ford County, Kansas, one half percent (1/2%) county-wide retailer’s sales tax (hereinafter, the “tax”) approved at the special election on June 10, 1997”. The Question to be submitted at the election. “Shall the following be adopted? Shall the Ford County one half percent (1/2%) COUNTY-WIDE retailer’s sales tax approved at the special election on June 10, 1997, be repealed?” The City\County can move ahead not listing to the Voter. The election must be held as soon as possible. If we can get the Voter to repeal the sales tax, they can not sell the Bonds. This will be your final chance. Please help. Thank You. |

| Is it still mostly dirt and two unmarked lanes or has it been improved? Is that little bar still there just at the entrance (about a block or two) from the entrance to the park (on 4th)?

| Park Street? You mean that little place that was so small you didn’t have room to turn around in? That building was so old I’d be surprised if it hasn’t collapsed under its own weight by now.

| Redhead 18, I'm with you on this one. The sales tax needs and should be repealed. This petition may be the only way to stop the sec. Once the money is bonded, it will be to late. Ford County and Dodge City have been sold a bill of goods by "the inner circle". The promoters and supporters of the proposed sec have no idea how much money they will be spending if this white elephant gets built. You and I will pay dearly if this happens! The only other way to stop the sec is if County Commissioner, Kim Goodnight, steps forward and seconds Commissioner Swazy's (sp?) motion to repeal. The way things are looking now I really doubt that Kim will do it! RH 18, I just happen to have a copy of the petition. If you know anyone who is willing to sign and put an end to this madnes send them my way! |

| I think what we have here is desperation. I'm with 80% of this city that is fed up with living under the hand of the packinghouses. Our only salvation is probably through tourism and this Why Not Dodge has the potential to bring tourism back. Wright Park may not be the right place but people are desperate enough to go with whatever just to get'er done. We need to quit trying to build for the local clientčle and target the world.

| I agree with Detector. Come on RH18 and Mike B! Haven't you guys beaten this to death? It is a shame that you are narrow minded about the ability to draw people to Dodge. I just had a sales rep from Chicago today that was thrilled he was in "Dodge City". That is about all he could talk about. He wanted to know more about our history. Sadly, too many people that live in Dodge don't even know the real history or have no interest in knowing what happened during the late 19th Century into the early 20th Century. If you really studied our history you will find yourself in awe as you walk about town. Yes...there were heros and desperatoes and ladies of the night. There were also good wholsome families that built empires. Let's go ahead and build the SEC and bring more 'tourist' into Dodge. Let's give them something to see and hear and learn while they are here. BootHill is a start but let's take it further I was born in Dodge almost sixty years ago. I have lived in a lot of other cities but came back 'home'. The largest embarrassment I have had was that of people bickering over the SEC and wanting Dodge to revert to the sleepy ole town that it will never be. |
