WOW. Thanks again.

Thanks to everyone that has signed the petition to repeal Ford County share of Sales Tax used on Why Not Dodge projects. It was stated at the County Commission meeting this morning that almost 1100 name will be turned into the Ford County Clerk. The reason for the delay of turning in the petitions, with the Election tomorrow, it would make a mess for the County Clerk as she has only so many day to check all names. With her blessing they will be turned in at a later date. The County Commission will be asked to make this a mail in ballot, hopeing to get a better return of voters.

The County Commission will set the date for the election after they receive the report from the County Clerk. This will be a very important election for all voters in Ford County. Ever one is asked to vote, which will be a simple question.

You will be asked to vote "Yes" to repeal the Ford County share of sales tax.

You will be asked to vote "No" to repeal the Ford County share of sales tax, then it will remain as is now.

Thanks again to every one who worked hard in getting all of these names in less than a month. We live in the Greatest County in the World, where you the People can tell our elected officials,(the uses of a Petition,) what must be done.

Hmmm I didnt sign it...never even saw it...or have heard friends talking about it...did it maybe just make its way around Spearville and Bucklin?

As a younger-than-the-average-age person in the county, I dont mind paying a little extra in sales tax or property tax or whatever if I think the money would be wisely spent on making the quality of life in SW KS that much better. Does it include softball and soccer fields? Sure, if you or your family use them. If not, I am sure you dont care that Legends Field is a great softball complex. For those people who are retired, like living as hermits, or are just generally anti-social, then why would you want to pay for something, including a SEC, that you would never use? I think the majority of us that like going out and doing things, whether as friend or families, dont mind paying a little here and there to have nice places to go that arent 3 hours away.

If you don't pay the bills in sales tax, then it will increase the property tax to foot the bill. I think paying a sales tax is the only fair way to do it. That way, everyone pays equally by purchases. If the property owners foot the bill, most of the "problem people" in this town will not pay anything. In addition, visitors thru town will also help pay the bills. I don't know about you all, but my property taxes are too damn high now!!

I would agree with NLIRG and MITUSA, it is just a part of the sales tax, lord knows we all pay enough in property taxes, this thing was voted in, overwhelmingly by the way, and lets keep it on the sales tax, and not increase our property taxes.

The City and County has been ordered by a court of law to proceed with the building of the SEC. If you take away the county portion of the sales tax, the city and county will have no other choice than to raise property taxes to cover the loss of funds from the sales tax.

I for one, can't afford to see my property taxes go up any more than what they already have.

Nope, raised there in Cimarron, but have lived in Dodge City since around 1992 and have been a homeowner here for about 7-8 years.

Okey Dokey!!! For some reason, I thought you lived in Cimarron. That explains the "little red tags" you have been getting for your "grass"!! I hear she is out in full force, already!
