| Statement made at County Commission Meeting today. Ford County Commission meeting April 16,2007
By Rolland E. Warner.
We have completed and submitted to the County Clerk, the petition to repeal the Ford County,Kansas One-Half percent County Wide Retailer’s Sales Tax. You have been notified by County Clerk, Vickie Wells, that the petition carried enough signatures for us to ask (THAT) the question of repeal be submitted to the voting public.
You have got a great opportunity to select a time for this Special Election (as asked for in the petition), because you also are looking at a Special Election that is required for local approval for Destintion Casino (Two Special Election for the price of one).
The Casino and The Vote on the Repeal at the same time.
Only 23 percent of the registered voters voted in the last election, we feel that it is the responsibility of Government that we give All County Registered voters the opportunity to vote on these two questions.
Counties that have used this form of ballots have seen as much as 80% participation.
Our cultural atmosphere has had a huge change over the last 10 years, In case you haven’t noticed we are not the same people that voted for The Why Not Dodge. We need to put common sense with our money – All you have to do is check the attendance at the Projected Completed with Why Not Dodge Money.
We have become very proficient at throwing money to someone else in hopes that they will tell us how and on what to spend our money.
I thank you for this time and we wish to submit to this Commission the above thoughts for your consideration and action. I know you will provide the Citizen of Ford County the opportunity to vote, Thank You.
