| I wont comment too much on the issue, but I could see a lot of nice new resturants, hotels, 24 hour establishments, and other things to come with the casino. Of course there is good and bad that can come of it, but does that not apply to everything? Maybe it will force a lot of needed clean up in this city, and maybe even encourage a few nicer housing developments, or neighborhoods. With the experience I have seen with Casino towns, major players and businesses are very attracted to these places because of the amount of people they bring in, and not just to gamble for a night or weekend, but in population in general. I believe with the addition of the Casino and the Special Events Center combined, the future could look very good for DC. I guess we will just have to see. Vin ![]()

First, I do indeed understand the concept of truth! No need for you to get bent out of shape because my opinion is different thans yours. That's what makes this country so great...the right of individuals to be able to express their views and opinions. (even those views that are not the most popular, such as mine concerning gambling.) Second, I never said I was done expressing my views and opinions about gambling. Here's exactly what I did say! "Ok Bubba, I'm done! We could go round and round forever. We will not change each others mind. Besides I'm getting tired of this debate. I'll let you have the final word. Best wishes to you! I have no resentments or hard feeling towards you at all. You have put up a good argument. I respect you for speaking your opinion. Over and Out!" sunny beach, Have a good day! |

| I'm still waiting on hearing your plan to "make it better and faster without a casino or slot machines"...??

| Army, I don't know that I do have all the answers but I believe Dodge City was founded by people who were honest, hard working individuals. We, for the most part, still are. Sure, we have our problems, but what community doesn't? I very seldom agree with Bob Wetmore down at the Chamber, however Dodge City and Ford County are moving ahead faster (economically) than most others in sw ks. I did some visiting with him the other day and he directed me to statistcal page that gives alot of info. I wish I could remember it. He'd be glad to visit with anyone about this issue, just call him. Several of our city commissioners have said in the past that we live in an agricultural community and we should looking that direction for new business. I agree withe the agri. community, but I also believe we need to stretch our boundries. Why limit business just to agriculture and the packers? Let's broaden our focus and start looking at the manufacturing industry. Luker, on several occassions has pointed to health care industry. Excellent idea! Dodge can continue to grow and prosper. It'll take some people with vision, people with determination and committment. I think we can do it better and faster without gambling. No need for me to get into why. I think you know my reasons. Entertainment is fine and dandy. People watch T.V., go to the movies, the races, boxing matches at the C.C., basketball and baseball games, etc. for entertainment. Entertainment is neccesary. It diverts our attention away from our work and stress and from other responsiblities. However, a community can not survive just on the entertainment venue. We need to diversify. Anyways those are just a few of my thoughts. |

I think some people need to pull their heads out of the paper and take a drive around town. I'm sure on paper it looks good that new businesses have popped up, but take a drive down south second and reevaluate what you're seeing on paper. Now fast forward to the time when a bill finally passes requiring all undocumented to go back where they came from and start over legally. Dodge City will become a ghost town because we have nothing to backup our economy but immigrants. Dodge City economy would be devastated. Interesting choice "Moving Forward" is. One could use it to describe walking the plank.

| Thanks Mike for remembering.... 40 million for an entertainment venue to import talent that exports our money is not economic development. If we took that same 40 mil and built a 'long term care' facility for our aging baby boomers we'd see income such as this: Construction costs that equal $50,000 per bed: 800 beds (that's not a lot of beds when compared to the number of baby boomers). $100 per day per bed generates $29,200,000 every year. Some of that money comes from medicare, some from the patient's insurance and the rest comes from the patient's personal wealth. It really doesn't matter where it comes from. What matters is where it goes. In the case of the long term care home, it goes around the community (that would include an influx of professional medical personnel). In the case of the spatial events center, it goes away. In the case of the casino; gambling is simply a re-distribution of money with a cut going to the operator and that cut goes to Topeka.

| Who says you have to gamble to come out ahead. You can come out ahead in gambling by not even gambling but by providing a service to others that do gamble as they see fit! I bet everyone have gambled in one way or another. Have you ever played Bingo, purchased a raffle ticket , Lotto ticket, or even tried to purchased something on eBay you are gambling that you are going to be the winner.
