| Healthcare professionals are not going to flock to a town where the wage is as low as it is.............. why do you think they have to contract out for ER docs as it is? The wage is low - you can't compare to what a bigger city pays. Plus you are in the middle of nowhere with not much to do. I think bring the gamblin and the long term care - perhaps then ya can afford a newer and bigger long term care home. When I was there - there was a company looking to build independent living and was toying with long term care - but the study they did showed there wasn't a good enough return on long term care. They wanted to be private pay and there isn't enough folks to support that. Most whiz thru thier money within 2 or 3 years - then it's all medicaid money - and that's not the kind of reimbursement you might think it is. Forget the health care - stick with the gamblin

| I thought today's article in the globe about Boonville, MO and their casino and what it has done for their community was very informative. They interviewed a city administrator, the Police Chief, etc., and what was said sounded very encouraging and sounds like something that is needed in Dodge City as well. |

| I find it interesting that the Globe over the past few days have ran articles on the casino and what gambling means to other towns our size. What I find more interesting is the articles for the casino get front billing while the articles against it are in the middle... One last thought, casinos are a change. Dodge needs a change. I'm sorry, but the agri business is drying up before our eyes. Soon the aquafer will be dry, and Dodge and the rest of western Kansas will be once again desert, as it was way back when. These ethanol plants and such are not an answer, merely an adhesive patch to cover a problem, while the area of concern still pesters and deteriorates. A casino would be a boost in a different direction. A boost that is most needed in a town that has changed for the worst. To all of those who may question, may I simply point out that there is no opportunity for our brightest leaving 443, yes there are a few, to return to Dodge as it is now. I did, but I'm starting to wonder about that decision. This town is bad. From the illegal immigrant problem to the corruption going on at city hall, this town's a mess. If we don't do something now, why would anyone come back to this town in 10 years, given what has happened over the past 10? Dodge isn't the same town, drive anywhere south of the bypass and you'll soon realize that. |

| One last thing, if we wanted true development, not only of economics but of our future, Dodge needs to bring back a four year university. It infuses the community with well paid college professors and brings in hundreds, if not thousands, of young people looking to spend money and pay rent. Plus, it would be a real boost for the local schools and such. Look at a list of the most popular places to live in the US and they all have a university there. That's where DC needs to look. But we must use what we're given, so I guess a casino it is! |

| Obviously the investors in Dodge hasn't either......... or there would be more than the same 3 longterm care facilitites that you have had for years. The hospitial wouldn't be contracting out MD's and you wouldn't be votin gamblin in. None of those things in themselves is a big issue to me. I just know that SW Ks and KS pretty much as a whole doesn't pay too well as compared to other states. a nursing home has trouble making ends meet on Medicaid money. (medicare kicks out once you run out of the 90 or 180 days) Medicare only covers hospital and rehab and MD stuff) You need some private pay to break even for the most part. That's why for profit home have "X" number of medicaid beds - the rest are private or medicare beds. I think if ya bring in gamblin - ya bring in money, ya do that ya bring in workers in all areas - long term care ain't nuthin special in what gamblin can make better. I was the first group of CPHQ - does that count????
