Another example----before hunting season opens-------it's always, "most number of birds seen in along time", "hunting prospects excellent", etc etc, when some years, we have more illegals than birds!!!

Our brochures advertise cool gulf seabreeze, pristine beaches, miles of sand to play on, cool waters........... hell we are on the gulf!!. it's back flow water from the ocean - it's brown sandy water and the gulf seabreeze is 90% humidity amongst mosquitoes big enough to drive your damn car! There is lots of history if you can find a parking place to see it! Our trolly don't go thru the projects either!
We still remain altho "islanders" to the core and diss Houston whenever possible! LOL LOL

New motto for dodge? Get the Smell out'a Dodge!

A reference to cleaning up our image.

I for one have seen the dodge described by the Chamber. Well except for maybe the forested part. I've been out metal detecting east of dodge on a spring morning and it can be breath taking. I've put down my detector and just set there enjoying the view.

The Chamber has a tough job making a silk purse out of a sows ear, but it is their job to make us look good. The problem I see is visitors quickly realize its a sows ear and that they've been had. I truly doubt anyone has an accurate count on our immigrant population much less our illegal population. I'm sure the numbers would scare the hell out of everyone except the packinghouses.

Ya know very rarely do you smell the refinery unless you are close by. It's like rotten eggs at times but not nearly like it used to be in the 60's.............. EPA has done a very good job with the refineries. Too bad they haven't attacked the packing houses yet................. Ya'll got more wind than we do but more of an odor............. must depend on what you are smellin for EPA to get all huffy. I hear Baytown and Pasadena can get smelly at time along with the Houston ship channel - most refineries are along the ship channel - they aren't exactly in the middle of town. Not so sure bout some of the other towns that don't have direct access to the channel like we do.

In getting ready for my friend's visit, I was snooping around trying to find things for us to do. And you know, I'm actually kind of impressed at what I've found for us to see and do. Boothill gunfights and variety show, Cowboy Band has their summer concerts in the park, Depot theater is having a show, Raceway Park is hosting races, All 4 Fun, Carnegie Arts, Dalton Gang Hideout, St. Jacob's Well, and the Dodge City A's are playing ball. And we do have some good restraurants like Kate's, El Charro, Peppercorn's, Sarocha's, Tacos Jalisco's. Plus, other things I find interesting in DC that others may not, like our family farm, the Spearville Windmills, a western KS sunset that goes for miles.

When you look at it this way, perhaps we do have a pretty good little town. While the CVB did stretch the truth a little, there's nothing wrong with a using a little writer's liberties now and then.
