Unfortunately, the airport is hemmed in by highways, and there is no way to extend runways at it's present location. Thus, don't expect any larger airliners landing at our airport. Too bad the City didn't have the forethought to keep the old airbase as it's airport.

USA,

We could always do what (I believe) Sacramento did and put the highway under the landing strip. The highway would actually be an underpass. What do you think?

Sounds like a lot of work and money. The South side is probably out, due to the feedyards and packing plants located there. That leaves the North side as the only possible extension. At least Garden City and Liberal had some forethought in building theirs.

The FAA has designated and paid to make Garden City's airport a 'regional' facility.

The die is cast and set.

The runway that parallels Business 50 could be extended quite a bit. The one that runs more north and south could be extended some to the north but it would require moving some of the present landing lights to the north side of the highway.

TexKan,

I wasn't just thinking about a casino. I think that a larger airport would be beneficial to the city and county as far as making future industry take a second look at Dodge as far as a legitimate location. Sure, we may be off the beaten path, but a some point we need to committ to industry outside of agriculture.

luker,

Are you saying we (Dodge) will not have any help from the FAA?

Now, that is another thing that we agree on! What is going on here?
