County attorney refuses Dodge City misdemeanor cases

Ford County Attorney John Sauer has decided he will no longer try misdemeanor cases filed in his office that come from inside Dodge City.

"Due to the high volume of felony, juvenile and child in need of care cases filed in this office, the limitations of personnel in this office and the scarcity of the Kids' Counsel, we regretfully cannot handle any and all possible cases," Sauer wrote in a letter to Ford County Sheriff Dean Bush. "We must prioritize. Thus, we will accept for prosecution from the Ford County Sheriff's Office misdemeanor cases that occur outside the city limits of Dodge City."

Must be nice to say I'm too busy to do my job.

Mr. Sauer would not be to busy if he knew the difference between a felony and a misdemeaner. In a recent case, it took him over 7 months to recognize the difference.

Well I have heard it all.
Can he be voted out for not doing his job or can he be removed by the Attorney General for not doing his job.
Sounds like he thinks he runs this place but I think the people voted him in.
When is the next election.

The article said the Sheriff's Department will begin sending the tickets they write in the city though the city court. Will this not put a greater burden on those at city court.

I also heard that he will not proscute the under age drinkers between the ages of 18 and 20. Does this give those kids the free ride to go get drunk and possibly drive and kill someone else on the road and even themselves.

This need to be looked into seriously.

So that means we can speed all we wantin the city and then ask for trial to get it dropped. Cool!!

So, diversions (fastrack's) are a waste of money. All we have to do if we get a traffic ticket in the city is just appeal it to the district court- Saur will dismiss it and we go on our way.

This is what happens when the local legal system is overburdened with illegals and not enough resources to handle the load- something has to give.

You all voted him in after much begging from me not to do it. But I remember, you didn't vote in John Sauer, you voted out Ed Brancart. Now the same situation in 1 year. You all will vote in ANYONE who is not John Sauer. BEWARE

Yes it is.

Not only will his case load get lighter, but the County will end up losing revenue from all the cases going to the city.

Yep! you are right! Let's up the County budget another 75-80 thousand a year so then can justify raising our taxes. Sarcasim aside you may be correct about him needing help.
