| Ford County Commissioner John Swayze on Boot Hill Museum -- "Commissioner John Swayze said the museum has dropped the ball on providing entertainment to tourists and locals alike in the past couple years. "The last two times I've been to Boot Hill in the last two or three years, I've been very disappointed," he said. "Maybe the problem is in how it's being run." However, both commissioners said it was important to keep the museum open. "For a number of years, it has operated on zero dollars and contributed millions of dollars to the community," said Goodnight." DodgeCity.com: Dodge Globe: Local News: Stories Dodge City Daily Globe, Jan. 1, 2008 Hmmm- given that commission chair has been (is ?) chair of Boot Hill Museum -- must have been a quiet moment after Swayze's comment. And the Millions of Dollars -- maybe years and years ago -- but less than 60,000 visitors in a year doesn't equal millions of dollars. It has not operated on zero dollars -- spends hundreds of thousands of dollar a year -- at least in the budget last time I saw it. Last edited by old timer; 01-01-2008 at 10:09 AM. | While I agree that something stinks at Boothill and that needs to be addressed but 60,000 visitors a year easily gets you over a million a year, even if just 50% of them are out of staters. It's simple math. 60,000x 1 night at a hotel= a little over 4.5 million ,but assuming most will be sharing a room or coming in RV's lets take that by a third that still is 1.5 million on hotel rooms(using an average nightly rate of 75.25 night as taking by the web and using the averages I found per hotel, not scientific but its what I got). Lets not forget the spending on food beverages, memorabilia etc which can easily exceed that spent on hotel rooms. Last edited by aft_lizard01; 01-01-2008 at 10:49 AM. Reason: math |

| we did get back dirt -- I don't assume that each visitor stays over night. In fact (darn facts) most don't. What other facts have I got wrong? Darn it, must be my reading books that messes up my point of view. Casino -- requires actually a million visits per year to make profit, per Butler. Of course that includes each and every visit by locals.... Como se dice gambling en espanol ? |

Butler has never said such - nor is it even close to being true. Casino profits are a factor of gaming revenue, less expenses...not of visitation numbers. There is a correlation between avg visits and avg net-win, but it's your fantacy that Butler said it takes a million visits per year to make a profit. Again, something you say just to be inflamatory, whether there's any truth to it or not..! ![]()

| Butler's figure -- but perhaps goal a million visits was Butler's figure -- but perhaps they meant that as a goal -- in that, sorry I misstated -- but, that was their public figure -- and I heard it in person, it goes without saying. By the way -- the third applicant's location is of interest -- Southeast by race track area go to http://www.ford.kansasgov.com/tax/TaxSearch.asp try maupin -- wonder it that's the land ? |

2) The third applicant (Epic Gaming) is interesting. Again, Old Timer, do your homework before creating another rumor. It is not Maupin land. Who is behind Epic Gaming? Their lobbyist is Doug Lawrence (previously represented the Greyhounds, and then Ruffin), and now who?
