Jim Sherer - glad he got the state highway program, etc.

Four vie for Dodge commission posts

Jim Sherer is certainly glad to take credit for a multi-year state highway program -- wonder why the rest of the streets in Dodge City are needing a lot of work. And that water park -- great -- more skin cancer for the kids and lots of water used up. Would seem that crime, problems with uninsured drivers, trash in the street, very high property taxes, all of that is just not an issue, huh Jim ? And the limited use of the All-4-Fun center -- maybe it will work sometime. Hey, Jim, by the way, we have lots of young, ah very young, families here. I guess you must mean some other families, huh? Keeping doctors here is a different issue.

...As the only incumbent in this year's commission race, Jim Sherer points to street projects on 14th and Wyatt Earp Boulevard, and the city's acquisition of a youth activity center, as highlights of his tenure.

"I'm proud of what we've been able to do with the streets, even though it's been frustratingly slow," Sherer said. Final work on two of the city's main thoroughfares is set to begin this year, and Sherer said he would like to see the completion of those projects.

Sherer is also proud of the city's decision to enter into a lease-purchase agreement with All 4 Fun - an entertainment venue with miniature golf, go-carts and video games.

"We need to do everything we can to keep young families here," Sherer said.

Sherer said he would continue family-friendly efforts if re-elected by pushing for a city-owned water park....

At least the other two incumbents, Terry Lee and Jim Lembright, could see the writing on the wall, and decided not to let the public vote them out of office.

I would have voted for Terry Lee. Despite the controversy, he was the lone holdout when it came to spending money we did not have.

I agree. Although I believe he has a personal agenda when it comes to the smoking ban that seems to be blinding him from the truth, he doesn't seem to have a problem going against the corporate grain. I like that.

I also would have voted for Terry Lee. Even though I didn't agree with his views on the smoking ban and maybe a couple of other things. He seemed to be a straight shooter and he was always quick to answer an email.
