Brian Weber

I find Tee's comments most appalling. If his intention was to endorse Monte, he should have stayed true to his objective. Certainly he may have past frustrations with Dorothy and Jim Sherer, thus those comments are warranted, but then there is the issue of the fourth candidate. Because he clearly doesn't know Brian Weber, it appears he had no choice but to fabricate information to formulate an illogical attack on one of the strongest candidates Dodge City has seen in a city commission race in years.

Weber has made no reference to the tax and spend programs, he is certainly old enough to understand the tax structure, not to mention he's been recruiting, learning from, and advising fiscally responsible candidates on tax policy for years. From what I hear, he began working at a very young age, worked all through college, earned the opportunity to work in the Wichita business and political communities, and devotes much of his time away from work to helping Dodge City. His political and economic experience is not limited to student government whatsoever, and he has more life experience and understanding of appropriating funds than many of us will ever take the time to learn or apply.

I would encourage Tee to attend the public forums, and speak with Weber personally; you certainly owe him that before you attack him anonymously. Weber is one of the youngest and most promising candidates this city has ever seen, lets hope Tee keeps his fabricated opinions a bit quieter before he ruins this city for the rest of us.

It's great Tee supports Monte, so do I, in fact my second vote will be for Monte, right after I vote for Brian Weber.

For what it’s worth purelife, Tee is hardly anonymous to anyone that has been around this forum.

Welcome purelife

I can't speak for Tee but his impression of Mr Weber might have came from this statement in the Globe.
Quote:
I'm prepared to make unpopular decisions. I may vote in a way that people might get frustrated. But I promise any vote I make will be the result of research to benefit the city."
One could easily take this as a status quo statement. Our current leaders are making "unpopular decisions" They have voted in a way that has "frustrated" the people and I'm sure our current leaders have voted for what THEY see as a "benefit the city" but for who?

I'm not ragging on Mr Weber and in fact I like the idea of someone young and fresh at the wheel, But this is just what I've been trying to point out about politicians. They will never flat out make a commitment to a cause but use generalized statement that can be taken positive, or negative, by everyone.

Just once I'd like to see a candidate with the kahunas to take a stance on issues. For example we often see the comment like "If elected I promise to address the issues the public faces today." HUH? and that means what?

I'd like to see a candidate say "If elected I promise to address our city's growing illegal problem, and make being illegal in our city so uncomfortable they have no choice but to leave."

Or no "pet projects" like the smoking ban. If the MAJORITY of the public wants a smoking ban then I would expect nothing less, but it seems obvious the MAJORITY would rather leave the decision up to the business. I'd like the see a candidate that puts more importance on what the MAJORITY of the people want and not what the guys on the back 9 of the Country Club want.

I want to see a candidate with the kahunas to publicly say I plan to clean up this town. Address the gang punks and send them packing, bring tourism in and the illegals packing. English IS the spoken language and the city will not spend 1 cent on printing anything but. If you don't speak English, better bring your own interpreter.

I hate the wishy-washy please everyone approach most candidates take. Tell us upfront your plans and don't beat around the bush. If you plan to keep Dodge City a sanctuary city then have the nutz, no offense Dorothy, to say so. Then if the majority of voters want a sanctuary city, you get elected. See how that works? No surprises and no disappointments.

Well said Detector

I of course don't know the politics of DC. But you could insert country where you say city and it would fit perfectly for the other DC.

[quote=Detector;60493]How could you say someone that chose not to vote has no voice?QUOTE]

Come on Detector - I didn't say that if you don't vote - you don't have a voice. I said that there are many (here and everywhere) with loud voices, who regularly don't vote or are not even registered. That's my issue.

It's obvious you have more than just a casual link to Mr. Weber, and that's great.

I do know Mr. Weber casually. He goes to my church. I have listened to him read the sermon at the Catholic Church many, many times.

His previous words in the newspaper sometime back (I'll look for them) tend to lean toward supporting the tax and spend status quo that many of us disagree with.

Let me ask you a couple questions - you answer to yourself honestly...

Has Mr Weber ever had trouble making ends meet?
Has he ever had to compete for a real job in the open market?
Wondered how he would feed and clothe four kids?
Provided for a sick child?
Worked two jobs to make ends meet?
Has he ever been laid off, or been in fear of a layoff?
Borrowed money to pay his personal property tax on his home?
Worked for minimum wage?

Most of us have been in every one of these situations.

Like I said, he hasn't had enough life experience in my opinion to have felt the hurt that most of us have felt. While working for daddy might be enough experience for you, it does little for me.

Now, Brian might make a swell commissioner despite his life experience, but until he starts talking about how he plans to save us money and scale back the tax burden for the common person, then I am not interested. So far, he hasn't done that.

Lastly, I am entitled to my opinion. If Brian wants to refute it and talk about what he wants to do for this city, have him come on here and do it in person, instead of sending his attack dog to do it for him. We have always respected those in the past that have had the guts to talk with us out in the open, here on Dodgeboard.

Let's Have a Debate!

Could we do it??

Could there be a way that the candidates for the commission could be called and shown how to get on Dodgeboard? Then, we could have a "debate" with the candidates and then have questions from the DB members.

This could be a 1 hour session at any specific time any day/evening.

Any ideas if we can make this happen???

I think the old talkboard made most of our officials gun shy due to a lack of civil control. DodgeBoard members are much better at being civil. If we could just convince them to join they might be surprised.

I've held off my vote until I have a better insight into what these candidates stand for.

Daddy lets him go to the Catholic Church?! Daddy used to, but he formed his own church.

Mike likes to spend. Just like the "cult/compound" recently built across from Legends Fields.
