Dodge City passes ban on smoking

Hutchinson News Online

Dodge City passes ban on smoking, Hutchinson News, Feb. 5

Ok, I smoked, now and then, always 'quiting' -- so I do have an interest -- but aside from a few bars and a few food places, where can you smoke now anyway ? Not at government buildings, not at schools, not at stores or malls or theaters. Almost no where.

And even at those few places I can still smoke, there's always a limited area. Right ? So where is this law going to apply? Only at a few bars and restaurants, right ?

And where will it be enforced ? That the grind.

I'm learning better spanish so I will be able to smoke at a bar in the future. Unequal enforcement will be the bottom line. Easy to enforce the law at, say, Dodge House Restaurant or Cowtown or Applebee's, right. But -- and I don't bet -- but I will give 5 to 3 odds that on east Trail St. or east Wyatt Earp, there will be a few places that are not going to be smoke free.

Any takers ? Que tal with that ?

I too, wonder how this new ordinance will be enforced.
I thought our governor had English for our language but I still hear jibberrish.
How about car insurance, speeding, etc
Just because it's voted on doesn't mean it will happen
Happy Hunting

Well lets see...there is gambling in South Dodge (Horse races), Under age drinking (most clubs), illegals running rampant and stealing gov't resources....and we are worried about smoking.....

Well you don't have to worry about it anymore because it seems to be taken care of.

Bad for Business $$$$$$$

The ban that was passed in Garden City last year, has hurt alot the of the business that are located within the city limits.Quite a few folks are heading to the clubs outside the city limits so they can light up!The ones in town are building seperate , open areas next to there buildings to accomidate the smokers. One place put up a tent , just outside there backdoor with space heaters. City put a stop to that.Fire Hazard . Made them get rid of the tent.

And that's why I a against giving the government more control over our lives. They have too much already!

Some day, they will be able to tell us when to wake up and when to go to bed, based upon "what's good for us".

What still kills me is when reading about how all these government do-gooders want to purge us from the evil of smoking........aint a damn one of them YET said anything about just banning the sale of tobacco. They will increase it's cost and tax the shit out of it, but yet say for the health of the people we will not allow it to be smoked in public? I would think that smoking in the house around children is more of a health risk than your kid coming into contact with second hand smoke at a god damn bar. I cannot believe that people cannot see this for what it is.....socialism at it's finest.

I remember Bob Dole saying something similar. If it’s really that bad just make it a controlled substance like drugs. The truth is the government is addicted to the billions of dollars of tax revenues from tobacco. The more they demonize it, the more taxes they can stick up our tails.

Actually, I would think fascism would be more correct

Actually socialism is more the huge government payments to large farms or massive tax benefits to oil companies or ethanol/corn producers.

That a city government that both supports coal burning energy plants (mercury all over) and then worries about second hand smoke in bars -- that's just hypocrisy. (Or the fix was in ? -- naw, not here .... really...)
