I still can't do the math on that one, but see an example of it several times each day.

Maybe they have a fractional ownership plan, i.e., 1/7th - Bubba gets it on Monday, OT gets it for church on Sunday, MikeB gets it Saturday.

Regressive, Progressive taxes/taxation explained.

Let's imagine two frugal traveling salesmen. They each have to buy a new car every four years to (say) keep up appearances, and they need reliable transportation.
(One guy makes 20K, the other 300K)
Run the numbers on a the RATE of total income each pays on on 5% sales tax.
Poor Boy buys a $20,000 car pays $1000 or 5.0% of his income.
Rich Boy buys a $60,000 car pays $3000 or 1.0% of his income.
Poor Boy has 5 times the tax bite, or rate of tax on a car. Rich Boy hardly feels sales taxes. Then run the numbers on a $30 pair of Levis, and the tax rate discrepancy triples.
Sales tax is NOT a flat tax."

Gee, huh, wonder how you figured that out?
I'm sorry, but that is the biggest load of liberal rhetoric I have ever read in my life.

Sales Tax is regressive?? And no it is not a flat tax, but it is about the closest thing to one we have in this country.

Playing with numbers is fun!! I remember some startling statistics back in the early 90's where it said that 50 % of all divorced people were Men!!!!!!

In a poll taken a few weeks ago by the Globe stated the the OVERWHELMING issue in Dodge City was and IS illegal immigration but it wasn't discussed at all during the forum.

Army - Immigration was briefly discussed at the forum - but not enforcement of laws. I agree that immigration law is not a local issue, it's a Federal issue. But, enforcement of law is very much a local issue and deserves discussion. We have local control over violations of municipal ordinances and State Statutes that govern. If we are a sanctuary because of inefficient enforcement, then we have a serious problem to face.

But, grumble all we want, we are not going to influence Immigration laws.
It's Federal conflict. A conflict between Treasury (IRS, Federal Reserve, FDIC, and everyone involved in control of monies) who do not want to cut off the flow of tax dollars and spending v/s Judicial (Everyone involved in the enforcement of laws) who want to stop illegal immigration, regardless of the monetary impact. Bottom line, that's where the conflict is and we, at the local level, barely have voice - and no vote.

We can control enforcement of existing law (except deportation, which is back to the beginning again).

It may be a Federal issue but when our crime is up and and our streets are unsafe thanks to illegal ingrates then IMO it BECOMES a local issues. There are two kinds of people...those that wait for things to happen and those that make things happen. If I were a leader I would be PROACTIVE to protect those that I serve.....not sit on my hands and wait for the Federal Cavalry to get here (they will never come).

We can control how the feds operate. We ARE the Federal Gov't. If the elected "leaders" (it hurts to say that word) won't do the job then WE the PEOPLE can vote for those that will. (problem is that we don't have a candidate to do that..lol)

If we were being invaded by a foreign army would you take up arms to defend your family and organize people locally or would you sit back and wait for the feds? The states should set their own immigration laws.

Army, I agree with you - but in my old-age I realize more that getting too steamed over illegals will just get me another trip to the cardio. We can wear out our keyboards and still not know what we can do to alter the course.

IMO - the Treasury side is right, we need to keep workers and their taxes. And, Justice is also right, we need to seal our borders - line up everyone here illegally and give them an opportunity to stay if they prove worthy - and it's not just factory workers - there are those that prey upon their own people that need to be dealt with first. We might start with a list of things they're going to have to do to within a specific time limit..

I agree we need the workers and their taxes but IMO they TAKE more than they give in taxes. If we didn't need the workers there wouldn't be jobs for them.

How do you test them in English skills if you don't know they are here? What if they don't pass the basic English skills test? Do you deport them? Do you spend MORE tax payer money to teach them to speak English? What if they don't want to learn English?
