I only watched yesterday’s episode but WOW has Oprha lost touch with reality. Didn't she grow up "dirt poor"? She said that she couldn't believe that people still live in such poor conditions. I guess that what happens when you have so much money you don't know what to do with it.

| Tuesday Oct 3rd According to this article The Dodge City segment will air tomorrow (Tuesday Oct 3rd) on Oprah. Oprah's Kansas visit to air on Tuesday BY BOB CURTRIGHT The Wichita Eagle <!-- begin body-content -->Shelby and Brad Marchel of Dodge City are still in a daze over being guests on Oprah Winfrey's show in an episode scheduled to air Tuesday on KWCH, Channel 12. "We were sitting right in the middle of the front row," Shelby Marchel said. "I don't think she asked me anything important because I just can't remember saying anything important. It's all a blur. "They treated us like the king and queen of England. Everybody who works for her knew our names... It made us feel like a million dollars." The Marchels were flown all-expenses-paid to Chicago two weeks ago to tape Tuesday's show after they were visited by Winfrey and gal-pal Gayle King on June 3 during the show's road trip across the country. The Marchels own the Marchel Ranch Restaurant and the Coffee Corral shop in Dodge City. Winfrey arrived in Dodge City unannounced with a camera crew to record her trip for a series of travelogue segments showcasing everyday Americans. While there, she ate at the Marchel's restaurant, visited Clarke's Pharmacy and talked with the Legends semi-pro basketball team based in Dodge City. Winfrey later stopped in Wichita, where she was filmed praising her accommodations at the Hyatt, listening to a trio of children sing and calling numbers at a bingo parlor. All those Kansas segments are scheduled to be on Tuesday's show, but the Marchels were the only Kansans Winfrey brought to the show in Chicago. "They said, 'We hear you have good food. We're hungry, so here we are,' " Shelby Marchel recalled of the drop-in four months ago. "Gayle came in first. I recognized her immediately and called over to her. She treated me like we were old friends," she said. When Marchel didn't see Winfrey, she asked Gayle if she'd deliver a message. But King said why not ask Oprah herself. "I turned around and there she was. I was screaming and crying and I heard my husband say, 'I'd better catch her before she falls down.' I felt a little ridiculous afterward but I heard one of the camera crew say, 'That was classic! Did we get it on film?' " So what did notoriously weight-conscious Winfrey eat? "She took an extra plate and sampled a little from everybody else's," Marchel said. That included bites of beef brisket, skinless chicken, smoked sausage, catfish and homemade biscuits. Winfrey also tried the "Brad Burger," named after Brad Marchel. It's half a pound of Angus beef with cheese, horseradish and mustard. "They also had our family recipe called butt-busting beans. Oprah said everything was good." Marchel noted that when she saw Winfrey at the show taping last week, she was slimmer than during her June visit. "She must have lost at least 10 pounds. I could tell right away. You know how it is when you take a road trip and eat along the way. You can't help but gain a little something." The Marchels spent from 7:30 a.m. to about noon taping the hourlong show. They were housed in their own personal green room stocked with all manner of food and drink. They also were doted on by hair and make-up people because they'd be on camera. Marchel's most vivid memory is that Winfrey appeared to be in charge of every detail. "She was supposed to read something off the prompter but she refused," Marchel said. "She said, 'I'm not going to say that's 'incredible' because it wasn't. It was interesting but not incredible.' They did it her way." Back in Dodge City, the Marchels are going to throw an Oprah-watching party at 4 p.m. Tuesday for patrons in their restaurant and point out where their famous visitor sat. "We can't put a sign up or anything because we signed an agreement not to use her name," she said. "But we can point it out to people."

| [quote=sas88nak;22503]She stayed at the Best Western on the west side of Lamar. Found it unusual that they labeled the clip of the motel "Small Town Near the Colorado Boarder". Did they forget the town name or just thought it wasn't important? OK I'll open mouth and insert foot on that last post. After watching todays episode I understand why she did not want to give credit to them. I am so glad that my home town, Dodge City, represented it self well. Althought I am curiouse, when did Shelby Marchel become the owner of the Dodge House and Saloon?
